He now finds himself befriended by Anveena, a young girl who has lost her parents and her home as a result of an attack meant for the dragon. Dar’Kahn kidnaps Anveena because she has the key to the Sunwell mystery, but Kalec and his gang are on their way to recover her. In their journey they come across Lor’themar the elf and his men who are going to help with the rescue.
This leads to a huge battle with a lot of bantering and posturing. This is the first offense for Dar’Khan …his taunting voice awakens Anveena to the horrific view of the wasted lands of Quel’Thalas. Dar’Khan welcomes Tyri to his home, but she wonders why he has done so. He tells her that it was once her home too.
In the meantime Tyri follows Raac, carrying Jorad and Kalec towards the same realm. Raac seems to know where Anveena is. In fact, the characters spend some time discussing why Dar’khan, who is thought to be dead, stole Anveena but do not steel Raac.
Kalec thinks about Anveena’s parents and how odd they were, beginning to think perhaps things weren’t as they seemed and they weren’t what they appeared to be. During their flight something else finds its way into the wasted realm, which an Undead discovers, completely destroying the monster.
Some are watching Dar’Khan High Elf race survivors who are working hard to keep their land from any further corruption from the Scourge and others. A band of spell casters and warriors lead by Lor’themar Moonsword, who knows Dar’Khan. Moonsword wonders what evil is intended for the human. While some of Moonsword’s buddies try to free Anveena, Dar’Khan calls up the dead souls from beneath the earth only to have the slain.
Anveena manages to escape only to be alone in the bleak land rocked by violent storms and unnatural weather all around. In an effort to be less noticeable Tyri changes form. The stumble across an old elven settlement that’s been attacked by the undead, who seize Tyri. Jorad slices off the leechlike undead’s head, after being the first to reach Tyri. They then come across Lor’themar survivors, who let them know about Dar’Khan and Anveena
Anveena finds herself wondering about her life, which suddenly seems so fake. She concentrates hard trying to remember her parents and her childhood, all she can recall is the dark shadow of the wizard Borel. In fact, he continues to fill her thoughts – more and more each day. She recalls strange words, and his hooded face sensing the presence of Borel … is there hope for the world? You will want to read the book. It’s a strong storyline that you are sure to enjoy.
